In 1954, following the success of the Aronde, Simca bought Ford, which was retiring from France, its large and modern factory in Poissy.
Inside were the new production lines for the future second version of the Ford Vedette.
It will therefore be a Simca, but also an American, with its spoilers, its chrome and its curved windshield, like its older brother the Ford Fairlane.
It is a propulsion monocoque with a rigid rear axle.
The emblematic model is the Versailles, a bourgeois car, spacious, comfortable and with a very pleasing presentation.
Until the appearance of the DS, the "American" style Simca Vedette only had competition with the Renault Frégate or the Peugeot 403, which were less expensive, but also much less sexy.
