Volvo 1800

The Volvo 1800 is a sports car that was produced by the Swedish automaker Volvo between 1961 and 1973. It was designed by Pelle Pettersson, who was inspired by the P1800 concept car that was shown at the 1960 Brussels Motor Show. The 1800 was available as a two-door coupe or a two-door convertible.

The first generation of the 1800, known as the P1800, was powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 100 horsepower. It featured a four-speed manual transmission and a live rear axle. The P1800 was praised for its smooth handling and comfortable ride, and it quickly gained a reputation as a reliable and practical sports car.

In 1969, the second generation of the 1800, known as the 1800S, was introduced. It featured a larger 2.0-liter engine that produced 108 horsepower, as well as a five-speed manual transmission and front disc brakes. The 1800S also received a number of cosmetic updates, including a new grille, headlights, and taillights.

The 1800E was introduced in 1970, this version was powered by the same 2.0-liter engine but with fuel injection and produced 130 horsepower. It also featured an automatic transmission and power steering as standard equipment.

The Volvo 1800 was a popular car in the United States and was used in the popular TV series "The Saint" starring Roger Moore. It was also featured in the popular movie "The Italian Job."

The 1800 was known for its distinctive styling, which featured a long hood and a short rear deck. The car's body was made of steel, but the hood, trunk lid, and doors were made of lightweight aluminum. This helped to keep the car's weight down, which contributed to its excellent handling and performance.

Despite its popularity and reputation for reliability, the Volvo 1800 was ultimately discontinued in 1973 due to changing emissions regulations and safety standards. However, it remains a cult classic among car enthusiasts to this day.
