Maserati Mistral (1967)
The Maserati Mistral is a luxury grand tourer produced by Italian car manufacturer Maserati from 1963 to 1970. The Mistral was available in both coupe and spider (convertible) body styles, and was powered by a variety of V6 and V8 engines.
The Mistral was designed by Pietro Frua, and was one of the first Maseratis to feature a front-engined, rear-wheel drive layout. Its sleek, sporty body was made of aluminum and featured a long hood, short deck, and distinctive front grille. The interior was luxuriously appointed, with leather seats, wood trim, and a variety of creature comforts.
The Mistral was available in a variety of engine configurations, including a 3.5-liter V6 and a 4.0-liter V8. Both engines were capable of producing around 220 horsepower, and were paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The V8-powered Mistral was particularly quick, with a top speed of around 140 mph.
The Mistral was well-received by critics, who praised its handling, performance, and build quality. However, it was relatively expensive and therefore sales were limited. The production of Mistral ended in 1970, making it one of the rarest Maserati models. Today the Maserati Mistral is sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, and is considered a classic of Italian automotive design.
